Digital Printing

This week we developed the work we have been doing on Photoshop by getting our designs digitally printed. It was really interesting to see the designs go from repeat patterns and compositions on the computer screen to printed samples. I was really impressed by the intensity of colour and sharpness of the printed images, although as we learned, the quality of the print is dependent on the fabric it is printed on, so you have to chose carefully before going through with the print. For these initial samples though we were lucky enough to have them done for free and everyone's were printed on the same fabric. We were shown how each fabric has a shrink rate, which it is important to consider, as it may affect the printed outcome of a design. As well as this the colour may blur due to the weave structure of the fabric.

This was a really interesting technique to learn, and one that I can see myself using a lot for future projects. The designs can be embellished and printed on to, but I also quite like the flat, crisp quality of just using one technique.
